Across Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of people still live without reliable electricity, a barrier that limits opportunity, productivity, and progress. SWARM-E, launched in May 2024 under the EU-Horizon 2020 program, is changing this reality with a bold new vision: bottom-up electrification. At its heart lies the SWARM grid, a modular, community-owned network where neighbors trade solar energy, clean cooking becomes accessible, e-mobility is powered sustainably, and safe water flows reliably. More than an energy project, it is a blueprint for resilience and inclusive growth aligned with the AU–EU Agenda 2063.

At WeTu, we are at the forefront of this transformation. Our role is to turn SWARM-E’s vision into living, working systems that uplift communities. We deploy solar-powered EV charging stations with bi-directional capability, transforming vehicles into mobile energy nodes within a Virtual Power Plant, stabilizing the grid and maximizing energy utilization. Our IoT-enabled battery leasing model, backed by PAYGO financing and secure Battery Lock technology, is making clean mobility affordable and accessible, while generating the data needed for smarter, more efficient energy management.
Our commitment extends beyond mobility. By integrating mobile water purification units into SWARM grids, we are connecting electricity access with critical services such as last-mile safe water delivery. We are also shaping replication strategies, supporting EV retrofitting, fleet logistics, and telemetry integration to ensure solutions are adapted to the unique needs of underserved communities.
As WeTu looks ahead, our focus remains on scaling these innovations and deepening their impact. Replication planning for Kenya begins in Q4 2025, marking a pivotal moment in bringing this model closer to the communities we serve. Every step we take strengthens our mission to create reliable, clean, and inclusive energy systems
