OUR PROJECTS
What is WeAgriculture?
At the crossroads of sustainability and innovation, a groundbreaking initiative is taking root in the world of agriculture. Solar irrigation, a cutting-edge approach to powering irrigation systems, is emerging as a beacon of hope for farmers seeking to enhance their yields and reduce operational costs. We invite you to journey with us through the conception, development, and potential impact of our pioneering solar irrigation project
Our Inception of Solar Irrigation
In July 2023, we embarked on a bold journey, commencing the test pilot phase of our solar irrigation project. Our goal was clear: to understand the intricacies of sustainable irrigation systems, harnessing the power of lithium-ion batteries to drive pumps. But our objectives went beyond mere experimentation. We sought to immerse ourselves in the practices and traditions deeply ingrained in the farming communities. Our aim was twofold: to evaluate the operational efficiency of our innovation when compared to traditional fossil fuel-powered pumps and to gauge the transformative potential it held for the farmers.
How Solar Irrigation Contributes to Sustainability
Reduced Production Costs
Solar irrigation technology is helping farmers cut down on production costs, making farming more economically viable and sustainable.
Time Savings
Our solar irrigation solution eliminates the need for labor-intensive watering, allowing farmers to focus their time and energy on more productive tasks, ultimately
boosting their yields.
Eliminating Hunger Crisis
Western Kenya is historically characterized by two planting seasons dependent on rainfall; however, the introduction of our solar irrigation project has revolutionized agricultural practices. Farmers now benefit from four distinct planting seasons, with vegetable growers achieving monthly harvests and enjoying increased income from their farm produce.
Our intended Impact
By increasing crop yields and ensuring reliable access to water, we are contributing to the reduction of food insecurity, taking a significant step towards eliminating hunger and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable Agriculture.
Homa Bay and Beyond
Our eyes are set on the future, and we see immense potential in the whole of Western Kenya. Farmers face significant challenges with their existing irrigation systems, compounded by the exorbitant costs of pumping water for their farms. By introducing our simplified and cost-effective technology, we aim to alleviate these burdens, addressing the primary concern of the local farmers.
