WeCool
OUR PROJECTS
What is WeCool?
Increasing temperatures have given rise to a multitude of challenges in the domain of food storage and production, ultimately leading to food insecurity. Several key factors contribute to this problem, including spoilage of perishable foods, insufficient storage infrastructure for large-scale food producers, rising food costs, and an overall regional agricultural imbalance.
WeCool, a Solution to Food Wastage
To address these challenges and achieve zero hunger, food security, improved nutrition, and sustainable agriculture, there is need to eliminate food wastage and develop comprehensive strategies to ensure the availability and accessibility of food for all in Kenya.
WeCool aims to eliminate food waste arising from spoilage in Mbita market supporting food market vendors to achieve food security through sustainable cooling solutions and storage systems, this way their income increases and the community gets healthy vegetables.
WeCool implemented through the use of an off-grid solar-powered modular cold room installed with low GWP refrigerants reduces emissions by nearly 100% due to its significant reduction of carbon footprints associated with cooling systems. The cold room has the ability to maintain cooling even during periods with no sunlight.
Net Zero Cold Room
We are pioneering the development of Africa’s inaugural net-zero cold room constructed from locally sourced organic materials. Currently in its testing phase, we are evaluating the efficiency of these organic materials within the cold room environment. Our Net Zero cold room aims to offer sustainable storage solutions for market vendors in Western Kenya.
WeIce The Solution to Fish Wastage
A significant volume of fish from Lake Victoria is exported to fish factories, with a portion being distributed locally. Given the highly perishable nature of fish, delicate handling and storage are essential. Our price friendly solar energy produced ice flakes and blocks offer a solution to these storage inadequacies.
