WeLearn

OUR PROJECTS

What is WeLearn?

Kenya faces a 35% youth unemployment rate, exacerbated by a decline in STEM interest. WeTu and Siemens Stiftung's WeLearn initiative aims to address this by offering a four-week course focusing on vocational orientation, particularly for female school graduates in technical skills. The project, rooted in STEM, seeks to bridge the gap between theory and technical application to meet the workforce needs of Kenya's shift to renewable energy.

Vocational Orientation Project - Empowering Youth for the Green Economy

The youth unemployment rate in Kenya is at an alarming 35% with an observation of a significant trend of students avoiding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics subjects (STEM). However, it is essential to recognize that STEM subjects are key to addressing youth unemployment as they possess the inherent ability to foster valuable skill development.

Future skills Training With a Focus on Preparing Women for the Green Economy

Productive employment plays a central role in the economic and social integration of youth. According to the International Labour Organization, the multiple capabilities and potential of rural youth should be acknowledged and access to appropriate education and training made accessible for them to enable them make the most out of the opportunities in the emerging green labour market.

Hands-on Minds-on Learning

WeLearn is a high school graduates project that focuses on empowering youth to broaden their horizons and interest for further training in technical and vocational education. The objective is to introduce rural youth to technical skills required for labour-intensive technologies and to strengthen their capacity to take up green jobs in the future. To implement the project we have joined forces with Siemens Stiftung.

We deliver sustainable and innovative solutions for clean energy, safe water and better mobility across rural Kenya.
